About Leadership Enterprise for a Diverse America (LEDA)

Leadership Enterprise for a Diverse America, a 501 (3)(c) not-for-profit organization based in New York City, seeks to redress inequality of higher educational opportunity for low-income high school juniors across the United States, whose socio-economic, racial and/or ethnic background is currently under-represented at the nation's top colleges and universities. Each autumn, LEDA sends recruiters to public high schools in numerous states to begin the process of identifying 60 high school juniors of exceptional academic and leadership potential and ambition. Following a two stage written application process, those chosen as AT LEDA Scholars assemble on the campus of Princeton University in late June for an intensive 8 week program, an ambitious curriculum comprised of readings and lively discussion, role plays, films on the history and ethics of leadership. Throughout the program, Scholars receive intense tutoring in both SAT/ACT test preparation, provided free of charge by Advantage Testing, Inc. and individual instruction by specialists in writing skills. AT LEDA Scholars receive room, board and classroom space, as well as the use of sports facilities through the generosity of Princeton University. The Scholars do not pay for tuition, room, board or travel expenses. At the end of the program, AT LEDA Scholars return to their respective high schools for their senior year, during which LEDA staff supports and guides them through the college application process as they seek admission and financial aid for the country's most selective institutions of higher learning.
